Open Question: Why does Israel refuse to investigate its war crimes in Gaza?

- Israeli forces killed hundreds of unarmed Palestinian civilians and destroyed thousands of homes in Gaza in attacks which breached the laws of war, Amnesty International concluded in a new report published on Thursday. Operation 'Cast Lead': 22 days of death and destruction, is the first comprehensive report to be published on the conflict, which took place earlier this year. 'Israel's failure to properly investigate its forces' conduct in Gaza, including war crimes, and its continuing refusal to cooperate with the UN international independent fact-finding mission headed by Richard Goldstone, is evidence of its intention to avoid public scrutiny and accountability,' said Donatella Rovera, who headed a field research mission to Gaza and southern Israel during and after the conflict. 'The international community, led by the UN Security Council, must use all its leverage to ensure that Israel cooperates fully with the Goldstone inquiry, which now offers the best means to establish the truth.' more

Open Question: Who wants some new 24 Season Eight spoilers?

You clicked it. Don't get mad at me for posting it. (SPOILERS) Season Eight will begin and end at 4:00pm & all the events will take place in New York City. The season will start a lot sooner after the previous season than ever before. Though it was just released that the time-line for the season will be pushed a little more into the future then they had planned, because they wanted Teri (Jack's granddaughter) to have meaningful dialogue. These are some of the characters that will be returning: Jack Bauer, Kim Bauer, Teri (Kim's baby), Renee Walker, Alison Taylor (as president), Chloe O'Brian, Ethan Kanin, & possibly Tony Almeida. (Tony not yet confirmed though) Also CTU will definitely be re-instated, & the new directer will be a guy named Brian Hastings, played by Mykelti Williamson. There will be another new character named Cole Ortiz played by Freddie Prinze Jr., an ex-Marine who apparently wants to follow in Jack Bauer’s footsteps. He runs the division’s Field Operations. And then a new expert data analyst named Dana Walsh will be played by Katee Sackhoff. The new season will air on January 17th 2010 on a Sunday evening. Most of the staff has been hired for field operations and have not been paid for 6 months. They cannot work without money as it is not an office job but the management is pressuring the staff to work or else leave the jobs and forego their salaries. more

Resolved Question: Which Army MOS should I do? Also what do these MOS do 11B, 35M, 35L, 31B, 31D?

When I say what do they do I mean what is it really like as one. The MOS I cannot decide about are 11B (Infantryman), 35M (Human Intelligence Collector and then after the correct amount of time switch laterally to 35L Counterintelligence Agent), and 31B (Military Police then after the correct amount of time switch laterally to 31D Criminal Investigations CID Special Agent). What do the 35M & 35L really do and what is it like as those? If I go Infantryman I will get Airborne in my contract and possibly Rangers (Op 40 contract). I cannot decide because I really want to be out there fighting for my country and protecting my country. At the same time I would like to be in Intelligence collecting it from the field, interrogating people, conducting covert operations and things like that. Im not sure about 31B (the route to 31D) because I heard being an MP can be very dull and nothing like a cop but 31D can be fun and like an actual detective. sup. in a small domestic setting lol i'm trying to make this more sophisticated than it should be :D. anyways in a ahousehold or even a group of friends how does one define a leader? is it the person that takes initiative? or the wisest of the grou. or could it be the most experienced, or aged. I believe that one cannot be a leader of all aspects. but based on experience, wisdom and knowledge be the leader of a specialized field. for example if there is a town of people and they want to grow crops. the farmer should be directing the function and if one breaks it down, then a mechanic should direct the operation of motor vehicles etc. anyways how do you view an ideal and practical leadership? :D more

Recently, when I went to McDonald's I saw on the menu that you could have an order of 6, 9 or 12 Chicken Mc Nuggets. I asked for a half dozen nuggets. "We don't have half dozen nuggets," said the teenager at the counter. "You don't?" I replied. "We only have six, nine, or twelve," was the reply. "So I can't order a half dozen nuggets, but I can order six?" "That's right." So I shook my head and ordered six McNuggets. I was checking out at the local Wal-Mart with just a few items and the lady behind me put her things on the belt close to mine. I picked up one of those "dividers" that they keep by the cash register and placed it between our things so they wouldn't get mixed. After the girl had scanned all of my items, she picked up the "divider," looking it all over for the bar code so she could scan it. Resolved Question: Was Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery really like he's portrayed in WW2 Shows, movies.?

All the movies or documentaries I watched have portrayed Montgomery as a tantrum throwing Field Marshall who doesn't know what he's talking about, undermining American plans, always fighting with Eisenhower until he submitted, when being told he would be relieved by General Alexander. Are the bad feelings towards Montgomery as a result from Operation Market Garden, British not being able to take Caen on D Day or soon after or simply cause he didn't know his place under Eisenhower and America leading the war effort, or was it just his attitude being replicated as the way he was. My Pa who served under him said he was brilliant and named his dog after him "Monty". What are your views on this man. more

Voting Question: My German Shepherd keeps retching and spluttering occationally, whats best thing to do?

Hi Two days ago my dog came to me really gagging badly like something was lodged in throat and she done this every 30 minutes for few hours, last two days its not so dramatic but every couple of hours she still retchs a little, but seems absolutly fine when she is rested. Only two things I can think of that may have got in throat are grass from a field of barley where she goes for walks, also this seemed to happen at same time I was making roast chicken, although im pretty certain she didnt get any bones. Reason im not going straight to vet, is cos its sunday, and also my previous german shepherd had this same problem but much worse, like she would gag all day every day for weeks, and after the vets done three exploratory operations they found nothing. Shall I wait a few days to see if it improves as it isnt getting any worse ? more

I'm seventeen, and a student pilot. I love flying. I eventually want to fly for an airline. For a time, I was looking at two schools- Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Daniel Webster College. ERAU has a total fee of nearly $53,000 per year. DWC costs around $38,000 per semester. Both of these schools cost so much due to the expensive hands-on flight training. My father is 64 and retired. My mother is in her mid-fifties, and is making $30,000 - 35,000 per year. I know they can't afford for me to go to either college. My father is already in debt from sending my two older brothers to college. I doubt the bank will lend him another plus-loan, as old and as in-debt as he is. I've looked at scholarships, but we're talking about a grand total of anywhere from $120,000 - 210,000 for my entire education. Recently I've been looking at the benefits that the Army has to offer. I've been told that if I choose Aviation Operations as my "career choice" upon enlisting in the Army, then I'll be tagging along with a helicopter 24/7, getting to know the thing inside and out. And after two years or so, I can apply for a Warrant Officer position. For the next two years after that, if I'm promoted to Warrant Officer, I'll get to fly choppers. And at the end of my four-year term, I'll be able to receive up to $80,000 for my college education. Which is nearly half of my total fees. So it's nothing to laugh at. Is the Army worth it, in terms of its benefits? Having grown up in a small town where nothing exciting ever happened, I'm starting to look forward to what I suspect is adventure and travel. But so far, all I've heard are stories of 22 year-olds coming back from Iraq with severe psychological problems, or with a sense of complete alienation for everything they used to know. I'm looking for answers from soldiers and veterans of the army, with true-to-life experience. No BS posers. What is your stance on the U.S. Army? Could I return from four years of service and not be any different? Or would I get messed up? I always have alternate options. I could go with a cheaper flight school, but I really like the idea of attending a school where United States astronauts are trained. Embry-Riddle is the leader in higher education in all aeronautical fields of study, and I'm just that kind of guy who always aspires to be the best. I could get student loans and work a few years before going to college. Even if I enlist and get military training, I still want to go to college- to fly fixed-wing aircraft. In the Army, I'll be flying helicopters, and that will amount to good military flight time, but you can see why I will still want to go to Embry-Riddle or Daniel Webster, even after I've gotten great training in the Army. Believe everyone deserves oppurtunity and should have a job. would do this as a President, First to boost the economy, I rescend the 787 billion for Government projects because government projects only stimulate government power. As part of the Plan to rejuvenate the Economy I would clean up America versus throwing money at shovel ready pork initiatves. I would call for a national census, anyone who didnt have American citezenship would be deported to there country they illegally came from. The wall around Mexico would be built in three years. Corporations that evade taxes with offshore accounts leaving the burden for the common people would automatically be fined triple the amount they funnelled into offshore accounts and would be held in detaining camps until it is verified they are not supporting terrorism. Maybe some military people can help me out. I have a friend who has been considering trying out for Navy SEALs. He would sign the SEAL Challenge Contract in a second but for the fact that if he fails, he is at the mercy of the Navy and will most likely end up at sea. This got me thinking. Wouldn't the high washout rate MOS/jobs accrue more people if they gave prospective military recruits the option of separating from the military upon failing out of their chosen fields? The prospect of spending 6 or so years doing something that is not appealing seems like enough to deter more than a few civilians from signing up with the military. I think it would definitely apply to the special operation forces who are looking to drastically improve their numbers in the coming years and whose wash out rates are high. I am doing a report on Lutheranism and am attempting to create a hypothesis based on this rationale: Most countries are now multi-cultural and therefore multi-faith. As the religious landscape changes we need new skills to negotiate differences, to live together peacefully, and to work co-operatively in a global society. A pluralist society accepts a variety of perspectives among individuals and groups. Religions today should be actively encouraging interaction and co-operation for the benefit of all. I have to do a field study on a religion (Lutheran) and use this information to back up my hypothesis. I am thinking along the lines of "In modern day society it is important too...", and then something about recognizing other religions but keeping own religious foundations/values.
